Today's photo tour gives an in-depth look at Area 2.
Area 2 was chosen as an excavation site for two reasons--first, this area is located at the highest point of the Tell* as it was in antiquity, second, when the site was surveyed in the winter, the team found pottery shards from every period -- ranging from Middle Bronze to Early Roman.  The survey team felt that this was a promising sign of what might be found underneath the soil.

*While the tower sits higher than the excavation area, it is a modern structure. The mound of dirt directly under the tower was brought in from another location.
