Touring Masada - a site first fortified by Alexander Jannaeus (BCE 103-76). It was taken by Herod the Great in the power struggle which followed the murder of his father Antipater in BCE 43. From CE 6 the Romans controlled Masada, but in the summer of CE 66 Jewish rebels re-took the site. |
