| To be discussed this week: the frequently
misunderstood, but well-liked and well-used patichon.
Although commonly mistaken for a violent tomahawk, it
is only lethal to dirty balks. Forget the whip, if Indiana
Jones had been a real archaeologist, he would have had
a patichon in his holster. But seriously, patichon
is the Hebrew word for "little hammer" and
helps the archaeologist perform tasks which require close
attention to detail. It can take a variety of shapes,
but is usually one foot in length and is often referred
to as a baby pick. Mine, the faithful tool of staffer
Will Krieger (see Staff Spotlight) is a prime example
of the patichon. |

Tureah's
Tidbits

Tureah will be featuring the ongoing
saga "The Long, Long, Long and Hot Days of Our Lives"
Under the steamy sun of the Negev, a plot is unfolding. In the
attempt to uncover the secret Persian formula for eternal youth,
buried deep beneath the ground at Tel el-Far'ah, a group has
come together to dig tirelessly from dawn to dusk until they
extract the secret formula. The group, however, is not a united
one.
Tammi, the ever color-coordinated leader teamed up with Gunnar,
is unaware of his own motives to take the formula for himself
and bring it to Germany. She does not know of the network
of spies he has planted among the volunteers.
Will, the dashing young Ph.D student and leader
of Area 1, is using mind control on his volunteers, brainwashing
them to turn against Tammi. His sidekick, Eddie, distracts
everyone from Will's evil intentions with his funny antics.

Martha Risser, Trinity professor and Area 2
supervisor, (appearing non-threatening, she herself being
a hard-working staff member) deftly plots to overthrow Tammi.
She has infiltrated the dig with her hired guns: Trinity students.
She finds her force weakened, however, by those brainwashed
in Area 1.
Michael and Dan, Area 2 and 3 leaders, are vaguely aware
of the power struggle for ownership of the formula, but try
to remain neutral. Yet men are easily led to one side or another…or
both.
Who will win, who will survive, who will reach the bottom
first? Stay tuned to find out more about the intrigues in
the long, long, long and hot days of our lives. Who's to say
they will find the formula at all?

Spotlight

At a young age while growing up in New Jersey, Will Krieger
discovered his love for archaeology: all it took was a simple
sandbox. At the age of 15, Will went on a teen tour in Israel
that further expanded his horizons. Even though he began his
work in philosophy back at Columbia University, his interest
in archaeology has long been intertwined. During his long summer
breaks from teaching at University of La Verne, California State
Polytechnic Pomona and Mt. SAC, he spends time with his trusty
patichon, Mine, on the tel. Ever since they met across a crowded
supervisor shed at Tel Miqne six years ago, Will still feels
